Title: “US Government Strayed from Fundamental Principle of Truth-Telling“
In this compelling interview, Jane Hampton Cook, an author of 13 books on American history, discusses the erosion of a fundamental principle originally set forth by Benjamin Franklin in 1740. Franklin advocated for presenting multiple viewpoints to the public, allowing individuals to determine their own truth. This, according to Cook, established a standard of integrity and truth in publishing that should have persisted.
Cook argues that during the COVID-19 pandemic, this principle was neglected. Instead of admitting uncertainties, governmental agencies and health authorities recommended vaccinations universally, saying “everybody should take it“ rather than “we don’t know.“ This, she claims, was a significant deviation from the truth.
Drawing parallels to historical figures like John Adams, America’s second president, Cook warns of the dangers of suppressing questioning and integrity. Adams had spoken out against corruption and the reversal of societal morals, a sentiment that Cook believes is echoed in today’s climate where questioning is often stifled and misinformation can prevail.
She also criticizes the approach to how information about COVID-19 and its treatments were communicated, suggesting that there was a failure to disclose full information akin to how drugs normally list potential side effects. This lack of transparency is seen by Cook as another instance of compromised integrity.
Furthermore, Cook touches on contemporary issues such as illegal drugs crossing the southern U.S. border, viewing it as another threat to American society. She concludes by stressing the importance of informed questioning and the dangers of complacency—likening it to the analogy of a frog being slowly boiled alive without realizing the danger it’s in.
Cook advocates for a return to honesty and the principled dissemination of information, asserting that truth welcomes scrutiny while lies do not. She encourages the public to seek out information and form their own perspectives, highlighting the transformative power of staying informed.
Jane Hampton Cook is an award-winning author of ten books, a national media commentator, columnist, a former White House communication staffer, and a presidential historian. A contributor to TheHill.com and GenealogyBank.com, Jane is a frequent guest on the Fox News Channel, WMAL, and has appeared on CBN, CNN, BBC, SKY News, CNBC, and other media outlets.
